Ultra-Short Throw Projector
As always, the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas is always a blur for those of us who attend as we get sensory overload seeing and hearing the new products from the world of consumer electronics. I always find it telling to reflect back a few months later and think about which products still stick out in my memory of the show.
In the world of home theater video products, there was a new product shown that still has its beautiful image burned into my head!
If you follow home video much, you probably know that 4K TV’s and projectors produce an incredible image. There is nothing like watching a movie or sporting event on a big screen! If you are lucky enough to have a dedicated home theater room, getting as big a screen as you desire is not really an issue. We’ll mount a projector on the ceiling, hang a huge screen on the wall and you are all set. For those of you without this option, your best option is typically a flat panel TV.
Enter the Sony VPL-VZ1000ES Ultra-Short Throw 4K HDR Home Theater Projector
The Sony team has developed a projection system that produces a huge 120” image from just over 8 inches away from the wall -- The VPL-VZ1000ES. They have even partnered up with one of our favorite audio/video furniture manufacturers, Salamander, to design a cabinet that the projector fits right inside.
So imagine this in your family room -- a nice piece of furniture up against the wall. Your favorite artwork on the wall above it. We can then mount a hidden, motorized drop screen. Push a button -- a 120” screen descends from your ceiling and a gorgeous image is projected directly from the short-throw projector in the furniture to the screen.
To top it all off, the new short-throw projector uses Sony’s Laser projection technology. The picture from a 4K laser projector is absolutely stunning. You’ve never seen colors and contrast like this piece can create. Best of all, there is no lamp to wear out with a laser light engine.
So this is the image that’s still dancing around in my head from CES. We got a first look at this great setup on a 100” screen. The picture was super bright and full of natural color that made us take notice, even in a fully lit room.
You can use this new short-throw laser projector like you would a normal TV, but you get up to a 120” screen, without having to have a permanent TV taking up space on your wall.
The VPL-VZ1000ES Ultra-Short Throw 4K HDR Home Theater Projector will be available for purchase very soon and we will put out a more in-depth product review.
