Soundcast VG7SE Setup Tips & Tricks

At Audio Advice, we are big fans of Soundcast products and right now, the Soundcast VG7SE is one of the hottest-selling portable Bluetooth speakers at Audio Advice. We love bringing this rugged, dependable weatherproofed speaker along with us to tailgating events, pool parties, or even to the boat dock for a fun night of dancing. The VG7SE is just an awesome solution for any outdoor barbeque, beach blast, or just about any scenario you throw at it — even liquid!

The VG7SE has a very high IP-rating of IP64 which means the speaker is resistant to rain, sand, dust, fog, and snow. It can handle extreme temperatures up to 140°F or extreme cold down to -4°F!

In this tips & tricks setup guide, we will show you how to get up and running fast, so you can get the most out of your VG7SE. You may even want to consider adding two of these for a stereo pair to cover your whole lawn with great outdoor sound. When you use the TWS (True Wireless Stereo) pairing mode to connect two VG7SE’s, you’ll be the hero at your next outdoor party.

What's In The Box?

First, let’s talk about what’s in the box. The Soundcast VG7SE comes with a DC 12V power supply, two AC adapters  one for the US, and another for the EU, which might come in handy if you travel a lot, plus a Quick-Start Guide. If you want to connect a CD player or another wired audio source, there’s also a 3.5mm stereo miniplug that plugs into the speaker’s AUX input.

There’s also a USB Type-A to micro USB cable included in the box. You can use this to charge your smartphone or a tablet at the same time while your smart device streams music to the speaker. This really makes a lot of sense so that your music keeps playing all night long without interruptions.

Finally, there is one lithium battery pack included. When you install the battery, flip the Soundcast VG7SE upside down and unscrew the battery cover on the bottom of the unit. You’ll need a Phillips head #2 screwdriver to remove the battery cover and to install the battery.

Getting Started

Hopefully, this will be a quick and helpful guide for those of you who might want to use two VG7SE’s as a stereo pair that covers the entire lawn with even more immersive outdoor sound.

 Installing the Battery

  1. Connect the battery to the VG7SE connector.
  2. Place the battery so that it rests against the foam pad and the wire fits into the plastic groove.
  3. Re-install the battery cover using a Phillips head #2 screwdriver.

Charging the Battery
The first thing you will want to do is charge the battery to full capacity before you use the speaker. As with all lithium-ion batteries, good battery maintenance will ensure the longevity of your battery pack is always giving you maximum performance.

  1. Attach the power adapter for your country to the DC power supply.
  2. Connect the DC power supply to the 4-prong power port on the back of VG7SE. (You will find the power port at the base of the VG7SE under the rubber gasket when making the connection, be sure the flat side with the arrows is facing up).
  3. Connect the power supply to a wall outlet, and let the VG7SE charge for 2-3 hours. (Playtime varies depending on volume, but you should get 10-20 hours of playtime).
  4. While charging, the battery status indicator LED on top of the VG7SE will glow RED.
  5. Once fully charged, the battery indicator light will stop illuminating.
  6. The LED light will blink RED to let you know it’s time to charge the VG7SE.
  7. Charging your smartphone or tablet is done using the USB port located on the back of the VG7SE under the second rubber gasket.

Connections & Pairing Modes

Next, let’s talk about connecting up your audio sources! There is high-definition Bluetooth and high-quality aptX on board, which are great ways to enjoy better-sounding music on-the-go.

 NFC Link mode
If your smartphone supports NFC, all you need to do to pair the VG7SE with your phone is hold your smart device over the NFC logo until it connects. To set this up:

  1. Enable Bluetooth and NFC pairing functions on your smart device.
  2. Press the Bluetooth button on the top panel of the VG7SE.
  3. Hold your smartphone over the NFC logo on the top panel until the phone connects.
  4. Press OK on your phone to finish the connection, and you’re ready to stream some audio and rock ‘n roll.

Bluetooth Pairing mode

  1. Enable Bluetooth on your smartphone in settings.
  2. Press and hold the VG7SE Bluetooth button for 3 seconds until the Bluetooth LED indicator light starts to flash a BLUE LED, slowly.
  3. Select “VG7SE by Soundcast” in the Bluetooth pairing settings on your device.
  4. Once successfully paired, the Bluetooth LED will illuminate solid BLUE.
  5. Open Apple Music, Spotify, Tidal, Qobuz, or any streaming service to play music!

Qualcomm TrueWireless Stereo (TWS) Pairing mode

If you have two VG7SE’s, or if you know someone who also has a VG7SE, your party will immediately experience the benefits of true stereo separation when you connect two VG7SE’s together wirelessly over the TWS connection.

With TWS, two VG7SE units can be paired for synchronous playback over Bluetooth. This means transport controls, On/Off buttons, and volume adjustments will be completely in sync and controllable from either VG7SE unit. The steps to set this up are:

  1. With both speaker units in Bluetooth mode, press and hold the TWS button on the first VG7SE unit until the LED under the TWS button flashes BLUE.
  2. Repeat the same steps above on the second VG7SE.
  3. Once paired successfully, you will usually see the TWS LED indicator light illuminate BLUE on one unit and ORANGE on the other unit, showing you both speakers are in Stereo Pairing mode. (The BLUE LED indicates the LEFT speaker and the ORANGE LED indicates the RIGHT speaker in the stereo field).
  4. If you need to change which speaker is the Left or the Right, press the TWS button again on either VG7SE unit, and this will cycle through the different TWS modes. The different TWS modes are Stereo, Left/Right, Sync mode, or Off and the LED indicator lights will reflect the changes with each press of the TWS button.

Next, let’s talk about connecting up your audio sources! There's high-definition Bluetooth and high-quality aptX on board, which are great ways to enjoy better-sounding music on-the-go.

What the LED Lights mean:

  • Blue and Orange LEDs indicate Stereo (Left/Right) mode -- In this mode, each speaker can be switched in terms of the Primary vs Secondary, and the LED lights will show you which one is the Left vs Right, accordingly. (In Stereo mode, you can spread them apart for increased depth in the stereo image, but be sure you don’t spread them too far apart beyond the Bluetooth range, or else they may lose their connection, and the sound will drop out intermittently.)
  • Two Purple LEDs indicate both speakers are in Sync mode, which is really useful if you want to stream the same music in multiple areas our your outdoor space, or into multiple rooms of your home.

5. At this point, both speakers are completely in sync with each other, so if you power off both VG7SE units and then back on again, they will conveniently re-connect shortly after startup. So, turn up the volume, press pause, play or skip to the next track from one VG7SE unit and the volume and playback controls will be in complete synchronicity with the other.

6. The last step is the most important. We recommend raising the volume. As the official DJ of the party, it’s your duty to turn it up and pump up the jams! We recommend setting the volume of your audio source to 80-90% for the best performance.

Other Cool Features To Know About

Indoor/Outdoor EQ Mode
Toggle this On/Off to tailor the sound coming out of the VG7SE to better suit indoors or the great outdoors. A light separate LED light on the top panel next to the Soundcast logo will illuminate when Outdoor EQ mode is active. We recommend, toggling this Outdoor EQ mode On when the TWS Stereo pair is in use for the most optimized stereo image that will completely cover your outdoor occasion with crystal clear sound.

Mood Setting Lights
When you are outside and the sun begins to set, the VG7SE has mood-setting lights that will add a little ambient lighting to enhance the experience.

  1. Pressing the Mood Light button cycles through the individual brightness levels.
  2. If you press and hold the Mood Light button for about a second, the mood-setting lights will let you cycle through 7 different colors.

 Keypad Lockout Mode
The last feature we will cover is the Keypad Lockout mode. This mode is useful when you want to set it and forget it, and not have to worry about children or anyone else messing around with your VG7SE and changing your settings. It locks all VG7SE keys on the keypad except the Power On/Off button. When keys are pressed, the LEDs will flash rapidly to indicate that lockout mode is activated.

  1. To activate Keypad Lockout mode, hold down the Indoor/Outdoor EQ button and the Mute button simultaneously while the VG7SE is booting up.
  2. To deactivate the Keypad Lockout mode, power up the VG7SE while holding down the Indoor/Outdoor and Mute buttons together.
