Platinum builds on two generations of loudspeaker design, consistently innovating at each step. With Platinum Series 3G, Monitor Audio is introducing a ground-up new MPD tweeter which improves on every aspect, as well as improvements to the mid and bass driver cones called RDT III.

The new cones combined with the new tweeter, open up new opportunities to improve the crossover and the speaker as a whole, making this range the best Platinum Series they have ever created.

New RDT III Cone

The Rigid Diaphragm Technology III (RDT III) cone has three improvements over its predecessor:

• A new rear layer featuring two uniform layers of carbon fiber skin to reduce cone breakup
• Optimized cone edge treatment to extend passband of drivers
• Optimized rubber surround to reduce cone breakup

Super light, yet super strong, the RDT III cone works like a perfect piston. The drivers produce mid and low frequencies with dexterity, and bass is tight and articulate. The result is Platinum 3G mid and bass drivers boast the lowest distortion of any Monitor Audio speaker in its history.

What Is Rigid Diaphragm Technology III (RDT III)?

RDT III cone is a composite ‘sandwich’ structure made from ultra-thin low-mass skins, bonded to a honeycomb Nomex® core material. It is very light and very strong, meaning that it can respond with great speed without bending - just like a perfect piston. RDT III uses C-CAM for the front skin, while the rear skin is made from two layers of carbon fiber material. The new structure reduces distortion by over 8 dB above 300 Hz, which makes RDT III the lowest distortion cone technology in Monitor Audio’s history.

The Definition Of Elegance

Platinum Series 3G’s cabinet design is completely new. Beautifully detailed and expertly crafted, their industry-leading attention to detail and outstanding quality control ensures that each cabinet is as elegant and refined for the eyes as it is engineered for total acoustic performance.

Constructed using laminated layers of MDF to form a curved and braced super-rigid 18-21mm cabinet on the rear, while a 36mm thick baffle is precision machined to create a unique curved front profile.

The cabinets are then embellished with etched inlays to highlight the craftmanship, before 16 layers of lacquer are added on top.

Form Follows Function

New Aluminum Driver Frames

The drivers on the Platinum Series 3G are held in place with individually cast aluminum holders, creating two layers of isolation between the driver chassis and the cabinet.

Beneath the surface and running from front to back within the cabinets are through-bolt driver tension rods that secure the drivers to the cabinet. This adds exceptional strength and rigidity, and creates a cabinet that is almost completely inert and vibration free.

The combined effect of the elimination of unwanted vibration between the drivers and cabinet, with additional cabinet rigidity ensures a purer delivery of sound across all frequencies – all the listener hears is clean, precise lifelike sound.

New Plinth and Crossover Assembly

Platinum Series 3G has replaced the traditional plinth arrangement with four new cast outrigger assemblies held together with a steel brace.

This super-strong structure doubles as the mounting for the crossover, isolating it from the cabinet.

New Driver Bolt

Platinum Series 3G features a large Torx head driver bolt for easy adjustment of the through-bolt tension rods, which secure the drive units to the cabinet.

Each set of speakers also comes with a unique walnut-handled adjustment tool as part of the Platinum tool kit.

Put Your Best Foot Forward

The new Platinum outrigger foot assemblies have been precision engineered to form a solid platform for the floorstanding speakers while presenting a more elegant aesthetic compared to a cumbersome plinth. Each of the four foot assemblies features ten parts, developed just for this range.

The outrigger is formed with two precision cast aluminum frames, which hold a completely new captive foot and spike assembly. The spike assembly is accessed and adjusted via the removable spun anodized disc on the top of each assembly, meaning no fiddly adjustment from the bottom of the speaker.
