Overview

The KLH Model Four brings acoustic suspension performance to rooms where size and placement flexibility matter. Featuring an 8" woofer paired with the same midrange and tweeter array as the acclaimed Model Five, the Model Four delivers exceptional vocal clarity and high-frequency detail. Its slim 8.25" cabinet depth (11" with stand) makes it the most placement-friendly speaker in the Model Collection, able to sit as close as six inches from a wall without compromise.

Classic Acoustic Suspension Engineering

At the heart of the KLH Model Four is the acoustic suspension sealed-enclosure design pioneered by Edgar Villchur and Henry Kloss and later refined by Kloss at KLH. By using the air inside the cabinet as a controlled spring for the woofer, this design delivers tight, accurate bass with excellent transient response and low distortion.

Unlike conventional ported speakers, the sealed enclosure also provides greater placement flexibility. The Model Four can perform effectively as close as six inches from a wall, delivering powerful, controlled sound without requiring the speaker to extend far into the room.

True Three-Way Acoustic System

The Model Four uses a dedicated three-way driver configuration for balanced, detailed reproduction across the frequency range. An 8-inch pulp-paper cone woofer delivers controlled low-frequency performance, while a dedicated 4-inch pulp-paper cone midrange provides clear vocals and natural instrument detail.

A 1-inch aluminum-dome tweeter with a soft rubber surround handles high frequencies with crispness and clarity. By assigning bass, midrange, and treble to purpose-built drivers, the Model Four maintains excellent definition and coherence even during complex musical passages.

Acoustic Balance Control for Your Room

Room acoustics can dramatically affect loudspeaker performance, so the Model Four features KLH's three-position Acoustic Balance Control. Inspired by a feature originally introduced by KLH in the late 1960s, the rear-mounted switch allows midrange and high-frequency output to be reduced by 1.5dB or 3dB.

This provides an easy way to optimize the speaker for different room sizes, placement positions, and reflective surfaces, helping maintain a smooth, natural tonal balance across a variety of listening environments.

Wide-Baffle Design & Flexible Placement

A hallmark of classic KLH loudspeaker engineering, the Model Four's wide front baffle helps minimize edge diffraction and promote smooth sound dispersion. The result is a broad, stable soundstage with precise imaging and natural midrange presence.

Combined with a cabinet measuring just 8.25 inches deep without its riser base, the Model Four is the most placement-friendly loudspeaker in the KLH Model Collection. Its compact depth and sealed acoustic suspension architecture make it ideal for rooms where positioning speakers several feet away from a wall isn't practical.

Mid-Century Style with Modern Refinement

The Model Four celebrates KLH's heritage with real wood veneer, classic proportions, and a distinctive wide-baffle cabinet inspired by the company's iconic mid-century loudspeakers. A removable magnetic grille maintains a clean appearance with no visible mounting hardware.

An included powder-coated steel riser base angles the speaker upward by 6 degrees for improved driver alignment with the listening position while giving the Model Four its signature low-profile stance.

Designed for Modern Hi-Fi Systems

Five-way gold-plated binding posts provide secure connectivity with a wide range of speaker cables and terminations. With a 6-ohm nominal impedance and recommended amplification of 30 to 150 watts, the KLH Model Four pairs easily with a broad selection of integrated amplifiers, stereo receivers, and hi-fi separates.

Blending classic acoustic suspension performance, a true three-way driver system, adjustable room tuning, and exceptional placement flexibility, the KLH Model Four brings the character of classic American hi-fi to today's listening spaces.
