Overview

Design

The YU4 has all of the same great finish options you get on the YU2. There's a modern Matte White or Black finish. A more natural Bamboo or Walnut color option is also available. While all of the finishes just look fantastic, our favorite is the new high-performance Red finish. The Red reminds us of a high-end sports car & this exciting look definitely matches the high-performance sound! Red is only available exclusively at Audio Advice.

If you have room for this slightly larger speaker on your desk or wherever it is going, it is well worth the extra $110 compared to the slightly smaller YU2. When you move up one level to the Kanto YU4, you also get tons more features!

Features & Technology

The YU4 has both larger speaker drivers and a beefier amplifier. Kanto changes to a 1” silk dome tweeter and upgrades to a 4” Kevlar driver. Like the YU2, the YU4 is ported on the back for an improved bass response. It does drop the USB computer connection, but what you get in return is very impressive.

The YU4 has 2 sets of optical inputs, two sets of AUX inputs (one of which you can change to an MM phono input), a subwoofer out, and best of all, Bluetooth streaming. You will also get a nice remote control and a spare USB power charging port on the back. For quick volume adjustments, there is a little round volume knob located on the front side, as compared to the back on the YU2.

Performance

There are lots of bookshelf speakers in the $300 price range that sound as good as the YU4, but here is the kicker -- they don’t have a built-in amplifier!

Not only is the YU4 a great desktop speaker system, but you can pair them with a turntable for a simple starter vinyl playback rig. Having the built-in phono preamp is a feature we love, as many beginners don’t want to contend with having an extra component. Their midrange sounds very rich and the 1” silk dome tweeter gives them a very smooth sound, which is perfect for showing off your vinyl!

  • Remarkable Sound

Enclosed in handcrafted cabinets, YU4's 1" silk dome tweeters and 4" Kevlar drivers deliver crisp highs and wonderfully balanced mid-range, faithfully reproducing all your favorite tunes.

  • Bluetooth APTX

Built-in Bluetooth with Qualcomm aptX technology lets you enjoy high-quality streaming from the palm of your hand.

  • Phono Preamp

Equipped with an integrated phono preamp, YU4 can be easily connected to any vintage or modern-day turntable.

  • Signal Detection

YU4 features automatic standby and power-up modes, helping to conserve power when you're gone and ensuring you never miss a beat when the music starts playing.

  • Remote Control

With volume, input, tone, and balance controls, as well as playback options when using Bluetooth, the YU4 remote gives you full control over your audio.

  • Simple Interface

YU4's user-friendly interface features a single knob. Simply rotate for volume, push in to cycle through the five inputs, or push and hold to activate and deactivate standby mode.

Excellent Sound

These are excellent speakers without any fatigue. I don't know how Kanto was able to do it. My only regret is that I cannot play them as loud as I want.

Excellent near field speaker

Have had YU4’s for a few days. My thoughts.

1) Unboxing. Be careful when lifting from box. I may have pushed in the tweeter or it was like that during shipping. I was able to push out.
2) good looking speakers. I went with matte black as only color currently in stock. In hindsight, really like the yellow, red and white colors- maybe should have back ordered
3)set up. Have as computer speakers for music and light gaming. Found a 50 inch listening triangle worked best. Speakers 50 inch apart and 50 inches from seating position. Uses spare 32 inch stands. Placed 6 inches or so behind and away from desk. Left not quite a foot from back wall. Found this really helped imaging. I bought the desktop tilting stands but a little too close-30 inch triangle
3)Sound and connections. Have optical from PC plus the Kanto 8 inch sub. Excellent imaging. Dead square in front of me. Size ideal for small office. Plenty of power and volume. My first near field set up so have nothing to compare. Not same oomph as 6.5 bookshelfs or larger towers. Not having amp/receiver to hookup a plus. Less is more.

I highly recommend the speakers for someone in need of simple set up for office. Sound is excellent. Imaging excellent. A little pricey- but Big step up from usual “computer speakers”.
