A Behind-the-Scenes Look Inside“The Poster King’s” Home Theater

Featuring Sony, Anthem, Paradign, MadVR, & Kaleidescape

Step inside a truly remarkable home theater meticulously designed to captivate your senses and leave you in awe. With cutting-edge technology, extraordinary movie statues and memorabilia, and impeccable attention to detail, this cinematic sanctuary is a haven for film enthusiasts and connoisseurs alike.

Illuminating the Cinematic Ambiance

When we were designing this theater, the homeowner, Kamal, also known as “The Poster King” by many of his friends online due to his massive signed poster collection, wanted his friends and family to feel like they were entering a museum and home theater room at the same time.

As you walk through the theater entry door, you’re greeted by a hallway adorned with a one-of-a-kind collection of movie memorabilia. You’ll find hyper-realistic figurines of Arnold Schwarzenegger as The Terminator, Wonder Woman, Batman, The Predator, and even a signed script of the Rocky III movie by Sylvester Stallone himself. To showcase all of this memorabilia, we built shelves that are 36 inches deep with hidden custom linear LED lighting set to 3000 Kelvin color temperature with ultra-high color rendering index to bring out every minor detail in his collection.

Inside the theater room is a custom-built star ceiling. For Kamal, he says it brings him back to the days of going to the drive-in movie theaters with his father as a kid. In addition, there are high-performance dimmable DMF lights throughout the perimeter of the room that match the 3000-kelvin temperature of the linear lighting. Depending on whether a movie is being watched or a particular scene in the room, the lights are set to a specific dim level.

Kamal was also nice enough to share a few of his favorite signed posters from his massive collection with us. Watch our video to learn more about his impressive collection.

Brains Behind the Theater

On the other side of the hallway hides the brains of the entire theater, the AV rack. This is where the processors, sources, and other components live and are easily accessible for maintenance. And this theater has everything it needs to enjoy your movies and TV shows easily.

To access live TV, YouTube, and other apps, there is the latest Apple TV 4K at the top of the rack. You then move to a Kaleidescape movie server which is by far the best source for watching movies available today. The Kaleidescape allows you to download any of the latest movies with bit-perfect audio and video and ensures you have a buffer-free experience in your theater.

Kaleidescape also has some amazing features and powerful interfaces beyond just high-quality movies. You can watch specific scenes of a movie, organize similar movies in your library, and so much more that is just so simple to use with its beautiful interface.

To drive all of the speakers, the homeowner went with an Anthem MRX 1140 home theater receiver. This is capable of driving all seven-bed layer speakers, the four atmos speakers, and the two subwoofers with independent control.

Audio Advice is the leading seller of Anthem in the U.S., and we can tell you it's for two main reasons. First, they simply sound amazing with great design, power supplies, and DACs. The second is their Anthem Room Correction software called ARC Genesis. We really can’t overstate how impressive this software is. Historically, good calibration systems were extremely expensive and very complex. Anthem has done a superb job making this software very user-friendly. We have the most popular tips & tricks/setup guide video all about ARC Genesis that walks you through every single step. Our team can even remotely calibrate your theater, so you don’t have to worry about setting it up yourself.

Having the ability to automatically adjust the delay and phase align your subwoofers has set ARC Genesis apart from most others out there. If you don’t know the delay in your subwoofer or how to phase align your subs, check out our subwoofer calibration video, where we show you exactly how to find the delay and phase align your subs.

Paradigm CI Pro Series

Paradigm, which is the sister company to Anthem, has earned a reputation as a trailblazer in the speaker industry, and its CI Pro speakers solidify their status as pioneers. Crafted with meticulous attention to detail and utilizing cutting-edge technologies, these speakers deliver an unrivaled audio performance at an unbeatable price.

Whether you're a discerning audiophile or a casual music lover, the CI Pro series caters to all with its diverse range of models. Paradigm understands that a truly immersive audio experience should seamlessly integrate into your living space without compromising aesthetics. The CI Pro speakers are built with this principle in mind, offering sleek and discreet designs that effortlessly blend into your home theater decor. The in-wall and in-ceiling models even feature slim bezels and paintable grilles, which allowed us to customize their appearance to match the wall color. Since we utilized floor-to-ceiling acoustic panels, we were able to completely remove the grills and let the speakers playfully out into the room from their hidden locations behind the panels.

The CI Pro speakers boast advanced driver technologies, precision-engineered crossovers, and expertly optimized enclosures, ensuring exceptional clarity, accuracy, and dynamics. We liked their lifelike vocals, precise instrument separation, and wide soundstage when we listened to music in the theater. And every movie we tested had a rich, crystal-clear sound. Each sonic nuance is faithfully reproduced, transporting you into the very fabric of the film itself. The front three speakers are the Paradigm CI Pro P1-LCR’s. The two sides and two rears are the Paradigm CI Pro P65-IW’s. And the four atmos speakers are the Paradigm CI Pro P80A’s. In the cabinet up front are two Paradigm Defiance X10 subwoofers.

Home Theater Video

On the video side of things, we used a Sony XW6000ES projector to fill a 150-inch, 16:9 Seymour Screen. The Sony XW6000ES utilizes a powerful laser light engine that gives you 2500 lumens and a Sony X1 Ultimate Processor that makes the colors, contrast, and detail look outstanding. Combined with the acoustically transparent Seymour Screen, every movie looks lifelike on this system. To make the screen even better, we’ve added a masking mechanism to make it change the screen from 16:9 to 2.4 with the press of a button.

Home Theater Acoustics

We used custom Audio Advice floor-to-ceiling acoustic panels to adorn the walls. These panels are a mix of absorptive and diffusion panels placed in the exact locations to optimize the sound quality and create an ideal acoustic environment. This meticulous attention to audio perfection ensures that every whisper, explosion, and musical score resonates with unparalleled clarity and impact. From an aesthetic standpoint, we used a technique that we think looks terrific and includes ¾” wide high-performance LED strips in diffusion tracks between each acoustic panel as well.

Home Theater Control

Behind the scenes, Control4 automation seamlessly integrates every element, offering effortless control at your fingertips. With the touch of a button, you can dim the lights, adjust the volume, and immerse yourself in a world of pure cinematic bliss. Since we are using a 16:9 screen with horizontal masking combined with a madVR Envy Extreme video processor, this means we don’t ever need to program any zoom by the projector. Audio Advice has also installed more madVR Envy Extremes than anyone else in the world. This video processor takes the output of the Kaleidesecape movie server and produces the most amazing colors, HDR tone mapping, and general image experience possible. The madVR then passes this processed signal to the Sony, which projects it onto the screen.
