Once you have everything packaged correctly, tape the box on the top and bottom to assure it stays together. If Audio Advice shipped the item to you inside a second box, it's a good idea to use that same extra box to help prevent damage on its way back to us. To avoid it accidentally coming back to you, use a magic marker to cross out the old shipping label or just tear it off.

If you are close to one of our stores, please let us know if it is more convenient for you to return it to us directly. You will still need to get a return number by contacting us and shipping and/or restocking charges may apply.
When Will I See My Refund?
It usually takes around 7-14 days for the refund to show up on the payment method you used. We do inspect all returns for damage and accuracy of the item inside the box before issuing a refund. Some items may be subject to shipping and restocking fees.
Can I Exchange My Purchase For Something Different?
Sometimes those big speakers just don’t fit in the room or you might have bought a small subwoofer and later found out you’d love a bigger one. We need to know right away about any shipping damage. Please contact us at 888.899.8776 or email support@audioadvice.com within 48 hours of your delivery so we can get the ball rolling on making things right. It’s very helpful to take some pictures and email them to us if possible.
Can I Refuse A Shipment?
You can, but unless the item is damaged, shipping and restocking fees will be deducted from your refund. If your item arrives damaged and you are lucky enough to be there, snap some quick pics and refuse the order. Then contact us so we can get a replacement on the way.
What Happens If My Order Is Defective?
This is actually pretty rare, most consumer electronics work fine out of the box 99.9% of the time. We’d like for you to contact us first by calling 888.899.8776 or email support@audioadvice.com so we can help get to the bottom of things. If your item is indeed defective during the first 30 days, we can usually exchange it for a new, replacement unit.
What About Service After 30 Days?
Audio Advice has a great relationship with all of our brands and can help you with warranty service by the brand after our 30-day guarantee period. Even after the warranty expires, we can arrange for service by the brand on products purchased from Audio Advice. Just call 888.899.8776 or email support@audioadvice.com.
How Do You Determine A Restocking Fee?
You may not believe it, but sometimes we receive items back that were put in the box with zero packaging and are completely destroyed or are missing many of the pieces that came with the item. We also track serial numbers and will get back different serial numbers. We’ve even seen different items than what we shipped out be returned. However, it’s very important to package your return properly so that nothing goes missing or gets damaged in shipping, which will result in a restocking fee or even no refund at all. If a product is opened and the market value of the product is reduced, then a restocking fee may be applied to the cost of restocking and the reduced market value of the product. The bottom line is if you treat us fairly, we will do the same.
Audio Advice strives to provide industry-leading support and service while also maintaining the lowest prices available on products for our customers. We work hard with our vendors to bring our customers the best products at each price point. As a part of that process, we work with our vendors to provide the lowest pricing in our stores and on our website.
Our prices should always be the same as any other authorized dealer, including big-box retailers and major online retailers.
If you believe that you have found a lower advertised price from a legitimate authorized seller, call us and let us know so we can make sure we can correct any inadvertent error on our side. As a matter of policy, we update our prices automatically if a vendor changes its authorized pricing policies, so we generally have the best prices all the time. Increasingly, there are knock-off copies of products online, usually sold by non-authorized dealers.
Please be sure that the item meets the following conditions:
- The item is brand new, in stock, and available for purchase
- The item has the identical model number, color, etc as the item on our site.
- The seller is an authorized dealer
As always, our goal is to provide a terrific customer experience, including industry low prices. We appreciate your support.
Overview
Founded in 1932, Wharfedale’s founder, Gilbert Briggs, had one goal in mind – to bring music into the home by designing loudspeakers that conveyed the impact, thrill and emotion of performance in an entirely natural and realistic way. Thus he created the first true Hi-Fi experience for connoisseurs of music in the home and continued to introduce technology that would enhance the listening experience – like the first commercial crossover, foam surrounds and the slot port system.
Today Wharfedale engineers follow the same dictum, utilising technology where it truly matters to develop loudspeakers that reveal the passion and excitement behind the musical performance. They believe that a connoisseur of sound would find the merest flaw intolerable, and with a connoisseur in mind, they have built the ‘ASTON’. If you are such a listener, you will recognise the significance of – and then insist on possessing – the control performance and sheer quality reflected in this fine speaker. Manufactured by highly trained, vastly experienced loudspeaker experts at the headquarters of Wharfedale, in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire – ASTON is built in the home of British Hi-Fi.
In the world of high-end audio, there’s no shortage of speakers vying for your attention with sleek, futuristic designs and bleeding-edge specs. But every now and then, a product comes along that does something entirely different. It feels less concerned with checking spec-sheet boxes and more focused on delivering a thoughtful listening experience.

The Wharfedale Aston is one of those products. A limited-edition bookshelf speaker handmade in the UK and capped at just 500 pairs worldwide, the Aston isn't chasing trends. It's not trying to be the loudest, the most affordable, or even the most feature-packed in the conventional sense. Instead, it does something much more interesting. It brings together Wharfedale’s storied British heritage, a warm and classic aesthetic, and thoroughly modern acoustic engineering to create a speaker that feels timeless and entirely personal.
If you're the kind of listener who values emotional connection over raw specs, or if you’ve been drawn to Wharfedale’s Heritage line but are looking for something smaller and even more refined, the Aston deserves your attention. Let’s take a closer look at why this special edition speaker might be one of the most compelling additions to come out of Wharfedale’s lineup in years.
History
Behind the Aston’s design is Peter Comeau, Wharfedale’s longtime Director of Acoustic Design. When the opportunity came to create a signature speaker, he wasn’t tied to a product cycle or a sales target. This wasn’t about fitting into a price point. It was about pursuing a personal goal he’s had since the 1970s: building a compact speaker with wide-bandwidth sound and full-range performance.
With the Aston, he finally got to build the speaker he envisioned decades ago. By using bespoke driver materials, advanced cabinet design, and a carefully voiced crossover, Comeau achieved something rare, an elegant, compact speaker that plays like a much larger system. You can hear how much of his personal design philosophy made it into the final result.

Design & Build Quality
At first glance, the Aston looks like a beautiful throwback to another era. The furniture-grade real wood veneer, inset baffle, and traditional cloth grille give it a distinctly vintage feel, echoing Wharfedale classics like the Denton and Linton. But the closer you look, the more it becomes clear that this is no retro replica.
Every inch of the Aston has been executed with modern craftsmanship and precision. The cabinet is constructed from multiple layers of different woods, a technique specifically chosen to scatter resonances and eliminate box coloration. Internal bracing and a bonded mix of high-density particle board and MDF keep things acoustically inert. Even the finish is smooth to the touch, deeply grained, and hand-matched between speaker pairs, which just reflects a level of attention that’s rare in speakers at any price.
Built in the UK by Wharfedale’s experienced team, they reflect a deep respect for traditional craftsmanship while incorporating modern engineering. It’s a speaker that speaks to the legacy of British Hi-Fi design in a way that feels both intentional and earned.
But Wharfedale didn’t stop with the speaker. The Aston comes bundled with custom-designed matching stands that are as thoughtfully engineered as the speakers themselves. Made in England from hardened high-carbon British steel with tempered-glass inserts, these stands are not only aesthetically beautiful, they’re functionally critical. They also include cable routing and nice spikes on the bottom for placing on carpet. The fact that the stands are included in the box is a major bonus that you don’t always see!

Features & Technology
Despite the old-school charm on the outside, the Aston is packed with modern engineering. It’s a two-way bass reflex design featuring a completely new 6-inch carbon fiber mid/bass driver, something not seen in previous Wharfedale Heritage models. This driver is housed in a rigid cast chassis, and its carbon fiber cone is light, strong, and incredibly fast. That combination allows for low distortion and clean, punchy transients without sacrificing musical warmth.
At the center of the cone sits a gold-finished phase plug. This helps ensure smooth and coherent upper-midrange performance, reducing breakup modes and preventing harshness. It’s a subtle touch that plays a big role in the speaker’s balanced character.
Treble is handled by a one-inch soft dome tweeter featuring a rear-chamber damping system and ceramic magnet motor structure. This isn’t just any off-the-shelf tweeter. It’s descended from the same design found in Wharfedale’s flagship Dovedale model, which costs more than twice as much. The damped rear chamber helps push the resonant frequency of the tweeter well below the crossover point, allowing it to reveal fine detail without edginess.
For the crossover, Wharfedale used air-core inductors and high-spec polypropylene capacitors, then refined the crossover design through extensive listening across multiple genres. The goal wasn’t just technical accuracy, but musical coherence.

Around back, the Aston features twin rear-firing reflex ports that help it dig impressively deep for a speaker of this size. Wharfedale lists bass extension down to 44Hz at -6dB, but in our listening room, it felt like it reached even lower. The low end came through with surprising weight and depth, especially on well-recorded tracks, without relying on artificial bass boost or exaggerated tuning. It sounded clean, tight, and far more substantial than we expected from a compact standmount.
Performance
All the design work and component choices wouldn’t mean much if the Aston didn’t deliver in real-world listening. What immediately stood out in our testing was how natural and engaging the Aston sounded. We paired it with the Leak Stereo 230 integrated amplifier, and the synergy between the two was fantastic. Wharfedale recommends amp power between 25 and 100 watts. At 86 dB sensitivity, it’s not the most efficient speaker out there, but the Leak Stereo 230 had no trouble driving it to room-filling levels with ease. A well-built integrated amp in the 50 to 100 watt range is a perfect match.
The 230 provided just the right amount of power and control, keeping the Aston’s low end tight while allowing its midrange and top end to stay open and expressive. The pairing leaned warm and musical, making it easy to lose track of time during long listening sessions.
Vocals came through with clarity and presence, and instruments had a tangible sense of weight and texture. Soundstage width was strong, but it was the depth that surprised us. We could clearly hear space between performers and layers of detail often lost on less refined setups.
With rock, blues, and jazz music, the Aston felt right at home. It has that unmistakable Wharfedale voicing that is rich, easy to listen to, and never fatiguing. What really impressed us, though, was how well it handled more modern genres too. Hip-hop, pop, and even electronic tracks retained impact and definition. Bass was full but never overdone, and the highs had enough sparkle to stay interesting without ever turning harsh.
With that said, the Aston will feel most at home in small to medium-sized rooms. In larger rooms or setups where deep bass is a priority, adding a fast, musical subwoofer like the REL T/5x or SVS SB-1000 Pro could help extend the low end even further. But honestly, in most of our listening sessions, the Aston held its own without any help in smaller rooms.
How It Compares to the Super Linton
For fans of Wharfedale’s Heritage Series, the Aston presents an interesting comparison to the Super Linton. While both speakers share a vintage-inspired design and musical voicing, the Aston brings its own distinct personality to the lineup. The Super Linton leans toward a fuller, weightier sound. It improves on the original Linton’s clarity and resolution, particularly in the top end, while retaining that big, room-filling character.
The Aston trades that scale for speed and intimacy. Its soundstage has more depth, its bass is cleaner and better controlled, and it feels more at home with detailed or dynamic recordings. If you prefer that grand, wide-open feel with plenty of low-end presence, the Super Linton still delivers. But if you value nuance, cohesion, and a tighter presentation in a smaller footprint, the Aston steps in confidently.
Build quality on both speakers is excellent, but the Aston feels like a step above in finish and execution. It’s handmade in the UK and comes with included steel and glass stands that not only look great but also enhance performance. It struck us as one of the most refined builds we’ve seen from Wharfedale to date. The fact that they include white gloves for setup, comes packed in precision-molded foam, and has weighty, beautifully made stands just adds to the experience. It feels like you're unboxing something special. Even when it's not playing music, the Aston is the kind of speaker you want out on display in your room.
The magnetic grilles attach cleanly with no visible hardware. And even the tweeter is protected with a discreet metal guard, so you won’t have to worry about curious pets or little hands. The experience of ownership is intentional from start to finish. It feels crafted, not mass-produced.

Overall Recommendation
After spending time with the Wharfedale Aston, it’s clear this isn’t just another bookshelf speaker. It feels like a statement about what really matters in audio. Not just specs and measurements, but how music makes you feel. It nods to the past without getting stuck there, blending classic design with modern engineering in a way that feels intentional and honest.
What stood out most to us was how rich and expressive it sounded. It doesn’t chase technical perfection for its own sake. Instead, it focuses on the things that make you want to keep listening: tone, texture, and emotional connection.
With only 500 pairs produced and each one handcrafted in the UK, it also feels like something special to own. The included British steel and glass stands aren’t just a bonus. They’re a meaningful part of the package, both visually and sonically. With the build quality, sound, and included stands, the Aston feels like a system that was designed to work as one cohesive unit.
If you’re going back through your favorite records or finally building that dedicated two-channel setup, the Aston delivers something most modern speakers don't. It came across as one of the more emotionally engaging speakers we’ve listened to at this price, and we were genuinely impressed. If you’re drawn to the Heritage aesthetic but want something more refined and rare, the Aston is absolutely worth a listen.

Details & Specs
Made in the UK
Drawing on Peter Comeau’s 40-plus years of acoustic design experience this standmount model, like many of Comeau’s most lauded creations, delivers an absorbing, full-scale sound that belies the cabinet’s compact dimensions. As a signature model, Comeau was able to take his time with the ASTON, free from the commercial deadlines of core product lines. Not only designed and engineered in the UK, ASTON is manufactured here, as a limited edition, made not for the masses but for the passionate, knowledgeable few. A mere 500 pairs have been manufactured. And when it’s gone, it’s gone!
A New Classic
Its wood-veneered cabinet has a vintage look, yet the standard of finish is distinctly contemporary – a tribute to the skilled craftsmanship required for the production of such a loudspeaker. Fusing established methodology with modern technology, ASTON may be classic in style but it is truly up to date in terms of performance and technology. Every part of the speaker, from the cabinet to the grille, has been designed and chosen to exemplify the standards that help make Wharfedale Britain’s most famous loudspeakers.
Two-way to Perfection
The ASTON sees the implementation of a brand-new Carbon Fibre bass/midrange cone, a first in the Wharfedale Heritage series. Developed from the basis of a long history of award-winning transducer designs, the ASTON bass/midrange driver is mounted in a rigid, cast chassis, The high-performance motor system minimises energy losses in the cone transfer mechanism and the cone itself is complemented by a new profiled phase plug, for super smooth and natural-sounding upper mid-range.
A perfect blend
The electrical crossover between the drive units is of vital importance in a loudspeaker, as it not only divides the frequencies between bass/midrange and treble but also blends the outputs of the drivers into a seamless musical presentation. The ASTON’s crossover components, including air-core inductor coils and high-specification polypropylene capacitors, have been chosen for their revealing and transparent character, seamlessly meshing the three drivers together.
The crossover slopes and the shape of the ASTON’s power response have been refined by extensive listening tests with a wide variety of music to ensure the speaker is simply a conduit between the performers and the listener. As a result, this sophisticated standmount speaker reveals an engaging and transparent quality of reproduction suited to all styles of music.
Listening Makes Perfect
The high frequency performance is handled by a new soft dome tweeter, designed in synergy with the bass/midrange driver. Via advanced computer modelling and thousands of ears of listening tests, the ASTON crossover ties the tweeter and Carbon Fibre bass/midrange driver together for a superlative level of music reproduction.
Furniture grade in finish and construction, the ASTON cabinet is formed from layers of differing woods. Via a series of complex tests, analysis and computer modelling, the multi-layer cabinet design complements the real-world performance of the featured transducers. With this resonance control and air pressure management – by way of dual rear ports – the Wharfedale ASTON is capable of high sound pressure levels and clean bass extension down to below 50Hz, in-room.
ASTONishing for a speaker of this size, Wharfedale ASTON offers a broad, even dispersion without coloration and it presents an almost holographic representation of the recording which leaves you in no doubt that you are in the presence of a truly great loudspeaker system. Styled like a legendary speaker of yesteryear, the Wharfedale ASTON is finished in a rich, hand-matched, real-wood veneer with gold accents and a Wharfedale Heritage trim.
Making a Stand
The matching ASTON stand is also made in England, from hardened high-carbon British Steel. Presenting the ASTON loudspeaker with elegance and delicacy, the stand is custom engineered for the optimum listening experience. Matching the furniture-grade cabinets, the ASTON stand is finished with a classy touch in the form of a luxurious glass insert, for arguably the most attractive loudspeaker and plinth combination.
