Overview

Rotel’s T11 is a high-quality FM/DAB+ tuner with up to 30 station presets. It provides a wealth of free music listening options.

Rotel has been producing quality tuners since the 1960s. One of the latest additions to this long-established line-up is the T11 FM/DAB+ tuner. It provides a wealth of listening options with easy access to classic analogue FM stations as well as newer DAB+ (Digital Audio Broadcasting) services.

Like the T14, T11 features the ability to easily store and recall up to 30 presets each for FM or DAB+ stations. A further useful feature common to all 14 Series products is the ability to dim the display panel and power LED to provide a comfortable visual reference in all lighting environments.

Quirky user interface

I bought this to pair with a Rotel RC1572. I wanted a simple FM tuner with presets - that's about it. The tuner performance, sensitivity, noise - is all great. The sound is great. The problem is trying to use this like an old-school manual tuner is nearly impossible: Suppose I am tuned to WUNC 89.7 and I want to go to WNCU 90.7. I turn the tuner knob... nothing happens. I turn it again, and again... by the 5th try suddenly it starts seeking on its own, and way overshoots - bypassing 90.7 and heading to 91.5. Then I try to go back - same problem. As I get close, it will lock-on to 90.6 or 90.65 (not even a valid FM frequency in the US) and sound terrible... Until I finally am able to coax it to settle on the station I want. But even then, the display is still showing that I am on the previous station - and it never updates. This is a useless and unacceptable user interface. The only way I can reliably tune to the frequency I want and get the display to correlate is to use the remote. So why bother to have front-panel knobs that do not function properly? Even if I try to use the front-panel preset buttons, it takes like 30 seconds to respond, and it never properly updates the display. So, if you never plan to use any front-panel controls, only the remote, it is a great tuner. Otherwise it is completely frustrating to use.
