Overview

Design Innovation

Rega's time, effort, and money was been spent on developing the circuit and construction while utilizing the highest specification of components throughout.

As part of the Aethos, Rega included useful features such as the switchable direct input and preamplifier output, to enable it for use in a wide combination of systems. The headphone socket has been integrated such that the speaker switching is performed by the output mute relay as so not to obstruct the signal path and degrade the sound quality.

Rega has taken the design concepts underpinning the multi-award-winning and hugely successful Elex-R and Elicit-R and propelled the performance to the next level. Rega designed the Aethos with a 125watt dual-mono design and features such as a fully discrete FET-based line amplifier, polypropylene capacitors throughout the signal path.

Additionally, Aethos is fitted with K-Power reservoir capacitors, power amplifier regulated supply, and a high current output stage comprising of four 160w Sanken output transistors per channel.

Huge Wow Factor

Never thought the difference would be so dramatic between my once great and now retiring $1500 amp from 2007 and the recently purchased Rega Aethos from Audio Advice. Quantitively, the % increase in overall SQ is in double digits. When a mid single digit improvement would have more than sufficed. The Aethos is a product of careful and thoughtful planning in design and execution. The only bells and whistles coming from the actual sound presentation and nothing wasted on anything other than superlative sound quality overall. Dynamics , soundstage depth (at this price) and refinement put this amp ahead of anything in it's class. Not to mention a handling of bass and lower notes that is both visceral and revealing in how much grip it can have over speakers. Clarity, poise and a confident rendering of most any music material thrown it's way. Then there are the layers within the soundstage in the sound image , typically the domain of $10k amps and up. This could be an end game amp for most audiophiles , it is for me.
