Is It Easy To Return An Item?
Yes, simply give us a call at 888.899.8776 or you can email our support team at support@audioadvice.com. Many times our team of experts can help figure out why the product might not be working like you expected and get things fixed over the phone, so don’t be surprised if we ask a few questions, we love troubleshooting!
If our tech help can not make you happy, we will email over a return shipping label with a Return Number.
Hopefully, you saved all of the original item’s box and packaging inserts. You will want to pack back up your return or exchange in the same way it came out of the original box. Once you have everything packaged correctly, tape the box on the top and bottom to assure it stays together. If Audio Advice shipped the item to you inside a second box, it's a good idea to use that same extra box to help prevent damage on its way back to us. To avoid it accidentally coming back to you, use a magic marker to cross out the old shipping label or just tear it off.
The return shipping label we send you will have our address on it, just make sure you take the box to the right shipper (UPS, FEDEX, or USPS) as per the label.
If you are close to one of our stores, please let us know if it is more convenient for you to return it to us directly. You will still need to get a return number by contacting us and shipping and/or restocking charges may apply.
When Will I See My Refund?
It usually takes around 7-14 days for the refund to show up on the payment method you used. We do inspect all returns for damage and accuracy of the item inside the box before issuing a refund. Some items may be subject to shipping and restocking fees.
Can I Exchange My Purchase For Something Different?
Sometimes those big speakers just don’t fit in the room or you might have bought a small subwoofer and later found out you’d love a bigger one. If you would like to make an exchange within 30 days of receiving your item, just give us a call at 888.899.8776 or email support@audioadvice.com and we will help work out the details. Additional shipping charges and return costs may apply.
How Do I Cancel An Order?
If the item has already shipped out or is a special order item, it is not possible to cancel the order. Please contact us at 888.899.8776 or email support@audioadvice.com to start the return process.
What If I Find Shipping Damage?
We need to know right away about any shipping damage. Please contact us at 888.899.8776 or email support@audioadvice.com within 48 hours of your delivery so we can get the ball rolling on making things right. It’s very helpful to take some pictures and email them to us if possible.
Can I Refuse A Shipment?
You can, but unless the item is damaged, shipping and restocking fees will be deducted from your refund. If your item arrives damaged and you are lucky enough to be there, snap some quick pics and refuse the order. Then contact us so we can get a replacement on the way.
What Happens If My Order Is Defective?
This is actually pretty rare, most consumer electronics work fine out of the box 99.9% of the time. We’d like for you to contact us first by calling 888.899.8776 or email support@audioadvice.com so we can help get to the bottom of things. If your item is indeed defective during the first 30 days, we can usually exchange it for a new, replacement unit.
What About Service After 30 Days?
Audio Advice has a great relationship with all of our brands and can help you with warranty service by the brand after our 30-day guarantee period. Even after the warranty expires, we can arrange for service by the brand on products purchased from Audio Advice. Just call 888.899.8776 or email support@audioadvice.com.
How Do You Determine A Restocking Fee?
You may not believe it, but sometimes we receive items back that were put in the box with zero packaging and are completely destroyed or are missing many of the pieces that came with the item. We also track serial numbers and will get back different serial numbers. We’ve even seen different items than what we shipped out be returned. However, it’s very important to package your return properly so that nothing goes missing or gets damaged in shipping, which will result in a restocking fee or even no refund at all. If a product is opened and the market value of the product is reduced, then a restocking fee may be applied to the cost of restocking and the reduced market value of the product. The bottom line is if you treat us fairly, we will do the same.
Audio Advice strives to provide industry-leading support and service while also maintaining the lowest prices available on products for our customers. We work hard with our vendors to bring our customers the best products at each price point. As a part of that process, we work with our vendors to provide the lowest pricing in our stores and on our website.
Our prices should always be the same as any other authorized dealer, including big-box retailers and major online retailers.
If you believe that you have found a lower advertised price from a legitimate authorized seller, call us and let us know so we can make sure we can correct any inadvertent error on our side. As a matter of policy, we update our prices automatically if a vendor changes its authorized pricing policies, so we generally have the best prices all the time. Increasingly, there are knock-off copies of products online, usually sold by non-authorized dealers.
Please be sure that the item meets the following conditions:
- The item is brand new, in stock, and available for purchase
- The item has the identical model number, color, etc as the item on our site.
- The seller is an authorized dealer
As always, our goal is to provide a terrific customer experience, including industry low prices. We appreciate your support.

Just about every fan of live music has heard the great sound of JBL speakers at a concert event. Their professional music systems have been the go-to choice all over the world since the Grateful Dead made them famous in the early 70s with their Wall of Sound which had almost 600 JBL speakers driven by 48 McIntosh amplifiers. They are still the top choice for the pro sound market and recording engineers and also offer a huge variety of speakers for consumers from portable speakers to high-performance audio models.
Over the last several years we have seen a big trend of people wanting great sound but with fewer components. Powered speakers that have everything built into them to give you music have become extremely popular, especially for desktop computer use. Most of the market for powered speakers is found in the sub $500 a pair category, but in the past few years, some powered speakers have emerged that rival high-performance separate audio systems.
For a large group of people, these powered speakers are an outstanding solution as you only need a pair of speakers and possibly a turntable. JBL has several very highly regarded powered speakers that are used in the professional production world. As a matter of fact, you’ll find their 705p and 708p at some of the top movie soundtrack post-production companies where accuracy is so important.
We wondered when JBL would take all of the great tech in their professional powered speakers and add in features that would make them perfect for home use. We are happy to say the new JBL 4305P Powered Bookshelf Speakers are precisely this product!
Design and Build Quality
Powered speakers have a few really big inherent design advantages. First, when a company goes to make a speaker, they have no idea what type of amplifier it will be connected to and have to be sure it will be compatible with a wide range of amplifiers. And the same holds true for the amplifier or the amps in your receiver. The engineers have to make them able to drive a wide variety of speakers. With a powered speaker, the whole system works as a unit. The engineers know exactly what is going on with both the speaker components and the amplifier and can design them to work perfectly together.
Some powered speakers can take things even further by giving you a separate amplifier for each speaker driver. This removes the passive crossover that would normally be in a regular speaker and does the crossover using active electronics, which is a far superior way to do a crossover as there is no loss in the passive network.
Finally, if the speaker company has some good knowledge of active designs, they can use equalization to perfect the sound coming from each individual speaker. The new JBL 4305P, as you might have guessed, uses all three of these pieces of technology.
They have a 125-watt amp for each of the woofers and a 25-watt amp for each of the high-frequency compression drivers.
From a physical design standpoint, the 4305P looks almost like a normal speaker except for the small controls on the front panel of one of the units. They are very compact at only about 13” tall by 8” wide, by 9” deep and come in a walnut or black wood veneer. As with most of their high-performance speakers, the beautiful (at least to us) compression driver is exposed and the grill hides the woofer. The grill will be JBL blue with the walnut and black with the black finish. Each speaker weighs almost 15 pounds.
The main speaker has all of the connections on the rear. One small caveat, but it is a performance enhancement, is for best performance you want to connect the two speakers together with an ethernet cable. Many powered speakers communicate with each other wirelessly, but JBL felt the sound was better if they were hard-wired like this and there is no length limit on the cable. You can use them wirelessly if necessary but you will lose a little resolution.
Features and Technology
JBL engineers some of the best speaker drivers in the world and a couple of those are present in the 4305P. We love the way they also call out their driver models. Unlike a lot of speaker companies, JBL engineers and manufacturers all of their own components. The compression driver is their new 2410-H coupled with their HDI horn. We could write an entire article on the advantages of a well-executed compression driver, but in a nutshell, imagine a water hose without a nozzle and your thumb over the end and one with a high-pressure nozzle. The latter one has a controlled and long-focused spray, while the other goes everywhere. The controlled directivity means there is less interaction with the surrounding walls which eliminates reflections that blur the sound.
Horn loaded speakers are looked down upon by some groups of audiophiles as there have been designs over the years that were very edgy and too bright which made them hard to listen to. JBL compression drivers are the exact opposite, as they are super sweet yet very fast.
The woofer is the 5.25” JW130P-4 which even has a cast basket for more rigidity. The internal Digital to Analog Converters are all 24bit/192k high-performance DACs. You’ll get a whole slew of connection options with the 4305P. You can tell that JBL, and rightly so, thinks these will be popular for professional monitoring as there are a pair of combination XLR and ¼” phono plug inputs. In addition, you get a 3.5mm analog input, a Toslink digital input, and an asynchronous USB input for use with computer audio. Google Chromecast, Apple AirPlay2, and Bluetooth give you a great set of ways to stream music to them. You also get the Harman Music for Life app which will make streaming or accessing files on your network a snap. They even have a nice little handheld remote for input selection and volume control. Or you can just use the front panel as well.
You can place the speaker with all the connections on either the left or the right side as there is a switch to select which channel the speaker with the connections should be. They also have a boundary control which will reduce the deep bass output if they are close to walls.
The 4305P will also be Roon Ready for those of you who are fans of Roon for Hi-Res music streaming.
We do wish they had come with an HDMI ARC connection. This would have made operation with a TV system more seamless, but with the way these guys sound, we can’t get everything and you can connect most TVs using an optical connection which they have!
One very cool feature is the way they did the subwoofer out. When you plug a cable into the output jack, it engages a high pass filter at 80Hz on the main speaker. This will roll the bass out of the 4305P and let the sub do all the deep bass work.
Performance
Ok, we have to start off by saying, the 4305P completely blew us away. The sound we got exceeded our expectations by miles and miles! When you look at the 4305P it looks like a typical small bookshelf speaker, but the sound you get is like what you would expect from a large high-performance tower speaker, or maybe even better in some respects.
Setting them up was super easy. You will need the Google Home app to set them up for wireless operation, but that only took a couple of minutes.
We had them in two locations — one was a room that was approximately 13’ by 17’ with 9’ foot ceilings where we had them about 8 feet apart on speaker stands and set up our listening position roughly 8’ from them. The other setting was as desktop computer speakers where they were 5 feet apart and we were sitting in the near field. In the larger room, we had the boundary control set to flat which worked great. When we moved them to the office setting where they were closer to sidewalls, the bass was a little boomy and coloring the midrange. A quick flick of the boundary switch instantly fixed this.
In the larger room, we used Chromecast to play some of our favorite test tracks, while in the office we used a USB connection from our computer.
The first cut was Harry Connick Jr’s Don’t Get Around Much Anymore. We have always liked this one for both dynamics and hearing into small subtle details as on a great system you can hear a lot of emotion in his voice and almost feel how delicate the piano is being played. From the first few seconds, we could hear all of those little vocal cues we are used to hearing on much more expensive systems.
The next track was Dialog from Chicago V. The first few seconds are guitar chords, then the electric bass comes in, followed by the drum kit. On revealing systems, the bass should be tight and fast, yet this recording really lets you hear the harmonics of the bass line. And on a system with the ability to keep everything in time, you just want to tap your toes. This was the cut that really blew us away. We could not believe the deep bass coming out of the 4305P! It was fast and extremely tuneful. Then the drum kit hit and the cymbals just sounded so light and airy. We were literally shaking our heads in disbelief over the sound these little guys were producing.
We moved on to one of our classical favorites, Rimsky-Korsakoff: Scheherazade performed by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra conducted by Fritz Reiner. This starts off with a full orchestral blast and calms down for an entrancing violin solo. The 4305P handled the full scale very well and floated the violinist right in front of us and you could feel all of the expressions they put into their solo.
Another track we like to use for testing is Lay Me Down by Crosby/Nash. This is a fantastic recording with deep basslines and harmony parts that when the system is dialed in sound like they are way beyond the outer edges of the speakers. Again, the 4305P produced far more sound than we ever expected to hear from such a small speaker.
Desktop listening was equally impressive in all of the same respects. These were by far and away the best sounding speakers we have heard for this kind of environment.
After these tests, we see why the professional 705P speakers these filter down from are so popular with post-production and recording studios. They just sound incredible for their size and price. A lot of it has to do with the fact they are truly fully active with separate amplifiers for each driver, but another big factor is all of the great engineers at JBL’s Northridge facility producing state-of-the-art speaker drivers.
Well done active speakers have always had a very effortless sound to our ears and the 4305P totally proves that point. You will hear deep into the music with all kinds of subtle volume changes being revealed. And JBL’s DSP tech they used allowed them to have tremendous and tuneful deep bass with never a hint of boom if you put the boundary switch in the right position.
Overall Recommendation
The competitors in this price category had better be on their guard, there is a new kid on the block who has some serious genetics from its parents! We will even go so far to say if you are looking at an integrated amplifier and speaker combination anywhere in the same price range as the 4305P, you should just get the 4305P. It will take up less space and your music will take on a life you didn't know existed in your favorite recordings.
