Overview

Ortofon MC X50 moving coil cartridge features a nude Micro Ridge stylus, boron cantilever, and pure silver coils in a stainless steel body. Ideal for precision sound system setup projects, it delivers 0.4 mV output voltage and superior high frequency tracking.

The Ortofon MC X50 moving coil phono cartridge sits at the top of the MC X Series, pairing a nude Micro Ridge diamond stylus with a boron cantilever. The stylus tip features a narrow 2.5/75 µm radius profile that tracks high frequencies cleanly while minimizing inner groove distortion. Paired with a rigid boron structure, this moving assembly delivers fast transient response and low distortion across a frequency range of 20 Hz to 20 kHz within plus or minus 1 dB.

Internal signal transfer uses high purity silver coil wire driven by a newly designed magnet system. This magnet configuration integrates a one piece pole cylinder into a rear magnet yoke to maximize magnetic efficiency. A newly formulated, Ortofon exclusive rubber compound damper controls mechanical movement at the coils, suppressing unwanted resonance during playback.

The cartridge body combines MIM stainless steel with an internal honeycomb core structure to form a stable housing weighing 8.6 grams. Electrical specifications include a 0.4 mV output voltage, 6 ohm internal DC resistance, 0.5 dB channel balance, and over 28 dB of channel separation at 1 kHz. Running at a recommended tracking force of 2.0 grams with a dynamic lateral compliance of 14 µm/mN, this cartridge integrates seamlessly into any high end analog sound system setup.
