The Ultimate Smart Home Tour
Lighting, Shading, Audio, and Control in Every Detail
Our latest smart home installation is a true example of what happens when every trade and every detail align perfectly. From the way light moves across the ceiling to the way sound fills each room, nothing feels accidental. Everything was designed to be both beautiful and effortless.
It’s hard to imagine a more challenging space for a media room. Floor-to-ceiling glass lines the back wall, opening to a pool, hot tub, and pickleball court. Yet this room still delivers a full cinematic experience. A 145-inch Stewart Filmscreen Phantom HALR handles the sunlight with ease, rejecting ambient light while reflecting the picture back to viewers with rich contrast and deep color.
The Epson LS7000 projector pushes 10,000 lumens to fill that massive screen, and behind it, hidden JBL Synthesis speakers handle the audio. The subwoofers were built directly into the wall and framed with perfect symmetry to the trim. Even the smallest details, like matching the speaker grilles and aligning them with ceiling lines, were thought through long before drywall went up.
One Control4 remote controls the projector, lights, and shades. With a single press, the room transforms from open and airy to dark and cinematic.
Walking through the home, you won’t see a single row of mismatched switches. Instead, custom engraved Control4 keypads sit neatly on the walls, designed to blend in and simplify everything. Each button runs a lighting scene, like Family, Evening, or Entertain, so the entire home can shift moods instantly.
The keypads automatically dim at night and illuminate softly when the room gets dark. Every outlet and cover plate shares the same clean finish, making the technology disappear into the architecture. This level of consistency doesn’t happen by chance. It’s the result of collaboration and an obsession with the details that define great craftsmanship.
Lighting is one of the quiet heroes of this home. DMF fixtures bring color accuracy, precision, and warmth that make every space feel alive. With a 98 CRI color rating, the lighting reveals every tone and texture exactly as it should appear.
The design uses larger four-inch fixtures for open spaces and smaller two-inch versions where ceilings curve or transition. Each beam spread was planned to eliminate glare and highlight key architectural features. The result is a home that feels evenly lit, balanced, and calm, beautiful in the daytime and even more stunning at night.
Light control extends far beyond fixtures here. In the primary suite, a curved motorized drapery track follows the architecture of the ceiling, something rarely seen in residential design. Lutron shades and drapes move silently to control natural light and privacy throughout the day.
Every window was measured and prewired during framing to ensure a perfect fit. Some shades are hardwired, others battery powered, where wiring wasn’t possible, but all are synchronized through the same system. Whether it’s blackout shades in the media room or soft sheers in the bath, each one was designed to look custom, not added later.
At the heart of it all is the Control4 X4 system that brings the home together. Lighting, shades, audio, video, and security all connect through one interface that the homeowners can access from touchscreens, tablets, or phones.
The main equipment rack is tucked away behind the scenes, with wiring and components meticulously organized. It’s the kind of technical craftsmanship that no one sees but everyone feels because it’s what makes the home reliable and intuitive to use every day.
Throughout the home, 14 zones of high-resolution distributed audio fill the spaces with sound that feels natural and immersive. Speakers are placed where they sound best and where they look right. Grilles are hand-painted to match ceiling finishes, and each one lines up perfectly with the lighting layout.
It’s the kind of small decision that makes a big impact. You don’t see technology; you just see a clean, beautiful ceiling that happens to produce incredible sound. Amplifiers and networking equipment live in the main rack, powering each zone quietly and efficiently.
Screens throughout the house feel like design elements, not electronics. The Samsung Frame Pro TVs sit flush with custom millwork, mounted at the right height for comfortable viewing. In the gym, we even embedded one into a mirrored wall, which was a precision install that required coordination between Audio Advice and the rest of the team building this home.
Security here was designed to protect without intruding on the aesthetic. Luma hybrid cameras are fully hardwired and connected to a local NVR system for constant recording and playback, even if Wi Fi or internet goes down. Each camera blends into the home’s architecture and color palette, so they feel like part of the design.
Deterrence mode can automatically light up areas or trigger alerts when motion is detected at night. The Control4 Chime door station is recessed into the brick, prewired with conduit during framing for a clean finish. Every decision here balances technology with subtlety.
Outside, the backyard feels like its own resort. There’s a pickleball court, a pool, a hot tub, and a full outdoor kitchen, all connected to the same smart system that runs the home. Landscape speakers blend into the greenery, each shaped like a small light fixture, while buried subwoofers deliver powerful bass that feels natural outdoors.
Every area has its own audio zone, so the homeowners can play different music at the court, pool, or patio, or tie it all together for a party. The covered porch includes weather rated DMF lights, a bright outdoor TV, and a subtle lighting trick that washes the columns in a soft, elegant glow. Custom-painted Wi-Fi access points extend strong coverage all the way to the property line.
What makes this home special isn’t just the technology; it’s the way every element comes together with intention. Speaker grilles align with light fixtures. Shades fit into channels that disappear into trim. Keypads and outlets are perfectly matched to the walls they sit on.
That level of precision requires constant collaboration between builders, designers, and our integration team. Every decision, from paint finish to wire routing, was part of a shared vision to create a home that feels complete in every way.
