A lot of the scarier aspects of the soundstage, such as atmospheric effects and the intense soundtrack, are really thrown in the spotlight with a full surround system, especially if you have a decent subwoofer. "

"Donnie Darko - There are so many reasons to love this movie, but what stands out the most is the soundtrack. Set sometime in the 1980s, you can hear classic hit-songs by Tears For Fears and so many others. The story-line is a winding labyrinth of mysterious plot turns and weird philosophies concerning time-travel and the end of the world, but the soundtrack puts you there in the story and in that era with the kind of weirdness that's perfect for Halloween. The Fives are my favorite speakers to experience this movie — to my ears, they outperform most soundbars."

"So, while my wife and I don't love "scary" movies, we did recently watch Sleepy Hollow with Johnny Depp a couple of weeks ago. I love the scene where he first encounters the headless horseman and is being chased on horseback. There is so much action to consider in this scene, including the thumping of the horse's hooves hitting the ground rapidly, the music navigating you during the fast-paced action. MartinLogan Motion speakers capture this type of scene perfectly with their ribbon tweeters and excellent midrange. while Dynamo subs really provide that deep, clean bass one would hope to see from a scene like that. Most of the 5.1 surround information is upfront, so having a quality pair of main speakers is critical to bring out every suspenseful detail. The Bowers & Wilkins 603 S2 Anniversary Floorstanding Speaker delivers with its smooth, open top-end sound, which is never harsh. The bass is very dynamic and tight. My favorite scenes are the tricycle riding over the floor and carpet, the echo of Jack’s typewriter, and the infamous Room 237 reveal. It is here that the B&W's really 'shine.'"
