If you read my earlier blog, I have seen the light, you know how enamored I am with my LED projector. I’ve had it now for over 3 years. The best part, unlike all other types of projectors, it looks as good now as it did the day I bought it! All other projectors use lamps, which immediately start to slowly lose light output till eventually you have to replace the lamp. With LED, it looks exactly the same until the LED panel gives out somewhere between 30,000 and 60,000 hours of use (as compared to lamp based which get 1000 to 3000 hours per lamp).
The other thing about LED I love is the color saturation. Things just look so lifelike and real. To me, the colors look like you are looking out a window. I also never see any motion artifacts. Panning of complicated scenes is very smooth. What all this translates into is an image that makes you totally forget about the projector and just enjoy the movie!
Two of our favorite projector companies, SIM2 and Digital Projection, have pushed the bar up on the LED front. When LED first came out, SIM2 had the best looking one of all with the MICO 50. As a matter of fact, our award winning theater features the MICO 50 with an anamorphic lens for 2:35. The MICO 150 is an improvement over the original. Boasting even more light output (900 lumens) and an upgraded video processor, it is flat out the best looking projector I have seen. We’ve installed several of these in some serious theaters and our clients have been thrilled.
Even better news is a new model from Digital Projection. The mVision LED has been our bestselling LED projector over the last couple of years. DPI is introducing a new model this month that will almost double the light output over the original! The new mVision will have as much output as many lamp based projectors (1000 lumens) . The great news (as you always expect in our industry) is it will come in $3000 less than the original mVision LED at $12,995! They debuted it at the Infocomm show a couple of weeks ago to rave reviews. Audio Advice will be installing our first one very soon once it gets here.
I just love these technology advances! These new LED projectors will give you a picture 100 times better than was possible just a few years ago, virtually never need to replace anything, and best yet, just look absolutely amazing. If you want a projector that will keep you smiling year after year, be like me, see the light with LED! For more details on LED technology, read here.
