With the arrival of the new Sony 4k projector, we were inspired to redo our Raleigh state of the art, reference home theater room. When we saw a prototype of the Sony 4K projector last year at the CEDIA show, we were all impressed with how large an image it could produce without any artifacts. Though our reference theater had a very large screen, we decided it was time to take the viewing experience to the next level. After taking some measurements, we determined that the largest screen that could physically fit in the space had a 151 inch diagonal! Yep, that’s a big one! I don’t think you will find a larger screen in a radius of hundreds of miles.
To accommodate something this large (as it pretty much fills up our entire front wall), we went with Stewart Microperf screen material so the left, right, and center channels could be placed behind the screen. Adding to the super cool factor, we used Stewart’s continuously variable masking panels which can mask off any image size.
If you’ve read the children’s book If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, you’ll understand what happened next. Since we had to tear up the entire front wall, we thought: “What the heck, let’s put in an audio system to match the screen size!” We have completed a few JBL Synthesis theater systems in the last several months. Each and every time we’ve been blown away with the dynamics of the complete package, so we chose a JBL Synthesis speaker array. This gave us two 15 inch subwoofers up front and two 12 inch subwoofers in the rear. There are several great features about Synthesis. First of all, it’s a smaller version of the professional series found in the best movie theaters. Second, it offers active amplification, where the crossovers are not passive. Finally, for final calibration, JBL provides a technician who does nothing but fly all over the planet calibrating the world’s finest home theaters.
All three Synthesis front speakers with their impact, behind the huge wide screen with the Sony 4K projector’s picture is a combination you have to see and hear to believe! We have it all set up as I write this and we’ll have the JBL pro here on August 29th to work his magic. In our experience it usually sounds about 25 to 50 percent better after his visit. We cannot wait to hear the results! We invite you to come in now or after August 29 to experience a whole new level in home theater. There is truly nothing like it for hundreds of miles around.
