ASTELL&KERN

AK380 Digital Audio Player
Setup Guide

Congratulations! You’re the proud owner of a brand new Astell&Kern AK380.  It’s powered on and you’re ready to experience full audio nirvana. While the AK380 is easily among the best portable music players out there, they don’t offer much in the way of a tutorial to get you familiar with the user interface. Don’t worry! We’ve put together a step-by-step guide to get you going…

Step 1-

The first thing you’ll want to do is Connect your AK380 to your local WiFi network. Unlike most tablets and smartphones that auto prompt you to connect, the AK380 requires you to set it up manually.

AK380 WiFi

Swipe down from the top edge of the screen and you’ll see a menu with several icons. The WiFi icon is in the upper left corner. Press and hold that icon and you’ll be redirected to the available networks screen. Choose your network and enter the security key. Once connected, tap WiFi” in the upper left corner. This will return you to the home screen.

Step 2-

Now that you’re connected to WiFi, you’ll want to check for system and application updates. Swipe down again from the top of the screen to reveal the hidden menu. Tap the hexagon icon in the upper right-hand corner, and it will take you to the settings menu. There are quite a few options to look at, but for now, scroll down to the bottom of the menu and hit “Update”. Here you will find two options: “System Update” and “Application Update”.  First, tap “System Update”. If there is an available update, it will show up on the next screen. If not, you will get a message saying that there is no new software update.

Once the System update is finished tap the “Application Update” There should be 3 options; Groovers+, Tidal and MOOV.  These are streaming music options available on the AK380. It doesn’t hurt to update all three apps, but if you only want to update the ones you’ll be using, that’s fine too.

Now that all of the software is updated, tap the “Update” icon in the upper left, and it will return you to the settings menu.

Step 3-

The last thing to do before playing your music is to turn on AK Connect. From the settings menu, tap the phrase “AK CONNECT”. You’ll be advanced to a sub menu with two options. The top option is “AK CONNECT”– it has a toggle button next to it. Tap the toggle to turn it on. The toggle will change color from gray to white.

In the settings menu, there are several sub menus and options to play with. We recommend that you turn on the Gapless play option — it’s a nice feature that queues up your next song without leaving dead air in between. If you’re feeling particularly courageous, you can play with the Equalizer, where you can add you own EQ settings based on your listening preferences.

Now you’re ready to listen to music.

This can be done by going into the “Store” on the home screen and choosing Tidal. If you have an account, login as you normally would and you can start streaming right away.

AK380 Music Library

In part two of this 3-part guide, we will show you how to rip CDs using the Astell&Kern PEM14 CD ripper, as well as how to add external files to your AK380.
