When I looked into our sales figures I saw Audio Advice sold almost 40 new turntables in the last six weeks. During the same period we worked to install new cartridges on almost as many old tables. This confirmed my suspicions: there really is a vinyl revival going on!

One of our favorite cartridge lines in the early days of Audio Advice was Dynavector. (You can read another post here about an accident I had with their best cartridge.) Many of you who were clients then may fondly remember your Dynavector Ruby cartridge coupled with the Vandersteen moving coil phono amp. Dynavector makes great moving coil cartridges. The company was born in 1979, just one year after Audio Advice started business. The Dynavector entry level 10×5 cartridge (now in its 5th generation) offers great value as its a High Output moving coil requiring no step up transformer.  The 10×5 is $550 and we look for this to be a very popular cartridge at Audio Advice.

The 20×2 is the next step up and comes in either a High Output or Low Output version. With this you get a solid aluminum body and their famous micro-ridge stylus. The 20×2 will be $950. We will also stock the Karat Diamond 17D3.  The D3 uses an actual diamond cantilever with the micro-ridge stylus. When you consider this was $650 in 1979 and is now only $1250, it’s also a great value.

I am really excited about being a Dynavector dealer again. It brings back some great memories of all the turntables Randy and I used to set up. Hopefully this time I will not break any!

Ortofon is a cartridge line that has been around since 1948. This Danish company has actually been in business since 1918 when they developed one of the world’s first synchronized sound systems for film. They make a total of 58 different models of moving magnet and moving coil cartridges spanning all price ranges. Their entry level cartridges work great on the older Dual turntables we seem to be upfitting nearly every week. We will be stocking a good selection of Ortofon cartridges for you. As always, any cartridge purchased from Audio Advice includes free set up and calibration. Crtridge calibration is extremely important to get the most enjoyment from your system and to take the best care of those vinyl record groove.
